Boarding talks and a new House Mascot!!

Over the past two weeks the boys have had two talks given to them by different members of staff. Firstly we had a talk by Mr Miotti, the Head of English, on the importance of reading. The boys heard about all of the reasons why reading is useful, why books are better than films and the reasons for reading in terms of improving their all round academic ability.

The boys all attentively listening to Mr Miotti and his powerpoint talk on the importance of reading.

Later in the week we had a talk on personal health and hygiene delivered by Mr Perelini. This talk gave the boys a few insights into the need for showering, exercising, eating well and general advice on being as fit and healthy as possible.

We will be having further talks, starting this week with a talk on nutrition given by Dr Stephanie Karl, an expert in the field.

We also have a new Fry House Mascot. He has been thoroughly cleaned and is now ready to be named - a process that we will go through this week!

The Inter House Tug of War...

This week saw the first inter house events of the new academic year with the Repton cirle races and the tug of war. All were eagerly contested affairs and the boarders did themselves proud. They were so quick around the circle that I could only get a couple of photos, but the expressions on the faces of those who competed in teh tug of war tells of the effort they were putting in!

Orchard House were the overall winners and it was great to see Asad and Abdel, two of our senior boarders, collect the trophy for their Day House.

A brand new year!

So the new academic year has begun and with it we welcome a new set of boys to Fry House, the boarding house of Repton Dubai School. There are plenty of activities that will be happening over the course of the year, with weekend activities starting properly next Saturday.

Over the past two weekends we have been swimming in preparation for the water based activities during the year. As you can see from below, a strenous warm up was required!

Also during the summer we gained our House mascot. He is yet to be named (there will be a vote to find the best name this week) but he is already a firm favourite in House!

The House prefects have been announced. The Head of House is Omid Mojtahedi and the prefects are Asad Kamal and Abdul Gafar. These boys will have the tasks of assisting the House staff in ensuring the day to day running of Fry goes smoothly.

Outdoor football has begun again as an evening activity now that the temperatures have reduced and it is as popular as ever.

Next week there will be pictures of our new students and of the activities in full swing!

Last one of term...

Term is nearly at an end and the summer beckons, however, the boys are still busy heregoing into the final few days.

Last week saw the naming of the Boarding House as Fry House, named after CB Fry the famous sportsman, diplomat, writer, publisher and old Reptonian. We were very fortunate to have both the Headmaster of Repton UK, Mr Robert Holroyd, but also the Chairman of the Governers of Repton UK, Mr Jonathan Fry, the grandson of CB Fry, present with the latter doing the honours of officially naming the House.

This weekend we have also spent time at Dubai Mall and there are a few photos here of the boys ice skating! A few of the boys had never done it before, but from what I could see, there were no major falls!
